Most headlights fall into one of the three categories below.
Compare your headlights and decide which they match most closely
Confirm condition of both - one is frequently a bit worse
Make sure the results will meet expectations
We agree on the final tier before scheduling...
No surprises. No pressure.
Light haze or dullness
Never quite looks totally clean
All or part of the headlight affected
Typical Outcome:
Crystal clear, perfect OEM quality or very close!
Why have only light damage resurfaced?
This is the smartest time to have your headlights resurfaced at the lowest cost... Because your OEM protective coating on the lens is GONE but the plastic isn't totally baked yet. At this point the damage is literally surface-level. If you wait, you are keeping more light (which is heat) inside the sealed housing than the polycarbonate (plastic) was designed to withstand. This is what produces permanent bubbles, heat cracks, distortions---and none of those can be resurfaced because they are in the body of the lens. Eventually the seal between the housing and lens fails, and it's game over.
Light damage - Best outcome, longest extension of the life of the lenses, lowest lifetime cost.
Obvious permanent 'foggy' or yellowed finish
Looks like permanent road grime after a storm
Covers most or all of the headlight
Typical Outcome:
Lenses come out crystal clear and like-new, or really close. Sometimes a medium level of oxidation and fading can hide minimal microcracks or tiny fractures---once resurfaced and sealed, these are almost always impossible to see unless you're in just the right light. If you haven't see moisture inside the housing (and it wasn't from a loose bulb seal in the back) then your seals are likely still good.
Heavy oxidation or deep discoloration
Hard to see the details behind the plastic
I often use my 'brights' just to see the road
Typical Outcome:
Lenses come out clear and shiny! Although heat cracks or bubbles can't be removed, they are usually the only visual reminder that the lens isn't actually new. The seals may have lost some resilience from heat, but as long as they haven't compromised the lens' ability to seal out water, you're good to go. But if we think they're too close to the edge, we won't work on them---we'd rather tell you the truth and offer you a DIY replacement guide or a good shop referral.
